Judges Deliverance

Commencing 7th September 2025 at our 5PM Services

Throughout the book of Judges we see episode after episode of God’s deliverance through God’s (sometimes unlikely) deliverers. As we do so the book draws us into the disastrous consequences of unfaithfulness to God whilst at the same time emphasizing God’s faithfulness to his people. In the building bible narrative it also highlights the need for a leader and builds a growing picture of the type of leader/deliverer we all need (or the ones we really don’t want!). The stories of judges draw us to Jesus as God’s perfect deliverer providing God’s greatest deliverance.

The book opens by setting the scene in chapters 1-3. Here we see that the Israelites had failed to obey the LORD in driving out the nations before them. This led to apostacy through the worship of Idols and abandoning of God. As a result God would send enemies against his people as punishment for their unfaithfulness. They in turn would cry out to the Lord and God in his kindness would raise up a deliver for them

The middle section of the book records the life of 12 judges (deliverers / saviours).

In this series we will focus in on 6 of these Judges that have the most written about them. We will then close the series by looking at the epilogue section of the book in chapter 17-21. Here the narrator starts to observe that the nation is stuck in the chaos and cycle of sin because they have no king and everyone was doing as they saw fit.
