Discipleship Training Scheme

DTS Logo

Are you looking …

  • for first-hand experience of church-based ministry?
  • to test and develop your gifts in a local church?
  • for theological training in a practical context?

The Discipleship Training Scheme (DTS) is a full-time, one-year volunteer programme (running from September to July), which aims to help trainees grow as disciples of Jesus and experience first-hand what it looks like to be in full-time Christian ministry.

Those on the DTS will:

  • Be involved in the full range of church ministries with an opportunity to focus on a specific ministry if desired
  • Take part in training at Cornhill or with Crosslands and attend relevant conferences
  • Be encouraged to develop skills in doing short Bible talks, leading Bible studies where appropriate, and reading 1-2-1 with others
  • Be individually encouraged in their discipleship through 1-2-1 mentoring and structured reading

Joseph, our current discipleship trainee, says:

JosephKallowCircle "Doing the DTS at ETCC has opened my eyes to different areas of church ministry that I hadn't been involved in before. I've been encouraged by the other volunteers in these groups as we all seek to glorify God as we serve him and the church. I've hugely benefited from studying the bible and preparing talks at both church and bible college. I have grown as a disciple of Jesus Christ as I have sought to serve him as best as I can as part of the DTS at ETCC."

We are looking for people who want to grow in their love and knowledge of Christ, who are centred on God's word, and would love to help others to do the same.  You will need to be able to declare wholehearted acceptance of the FIEC doctrinal basis and agreement with the FIEC ethos statements, which you can find here.

Applications can only be considered from those who are UK citizens or who otherwise have a right to work in the UK.  This is a volunteer role, but accommodation and living expenses are provided.
